Dr. Kaan Erkorkmaz


Kaan Erkorkmaz obtained his Ph.D. from the University of British Columbia in 2004. The same year, he joined the University of Waterloo as an Assistant Professor, where he subsequently received promotion to the rank of Associate Professor (2009) and Professor (2015).
At Waterloo, Prof. Erkorkmaz established the Precision Controls Laboratory (UW/PCL) which conducts research on cutting mechanics, machine tool dynamics, virtual manufacturing, and high-performance Computer Numerical Controls (CNC). His lab holds successful collaborations with, and performs technology transfer to, companies in the aerospace, automotive, and machine tool industries. Parallel to his research interests, Prof. Erkorkmaz’ teaches undergraduate and graduate-level courses at the University of Waterloo, in the areas of manufacturing, precision engineering, and automatic controls.
Prof. Erkorkmaz is recipient of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers Outstanding Young Manufacturing Engineer Award (2007), Government of Ontario Early Researcher Award (2008), InnoLecture visiting Professorship at the University of Stuttgart (2011), August-Wilhelm Scheer Visiting Professorship at the Technical University of Munich (2019) and the Sandford Fleming Foundation Teaching Excellence Award (2016). In 2022, he was granted the honorary title ‘TUM Ambassador’ by the Technical University of Munich.
Erkorkmaz is a registered Professional Engineer in the province of Ontario. He is a Fellow of the International Academy for Production Engineering (CIRP), where he currently serves as the Technical Secretary of the Academy, and as Secretary of CIRP’s Scientific and Technical Committee on Machines (STC-M).

Registration fee includes the following:

  • Publication of 1 accepted paper in the proceedings. Publication of each additional paper requires a $300 CAD registration
  • Buffet lunch for each day of the conference
  • 2 coffee breaks for each day of the conference
  • 1 banquet dinner OR cruise tour

Important information for accompanying person(s): Please be informed that the accompanying person can NOT be a co-author.
Co-authors, regardless if 1 author is attending, must pay the full registration fee.
The accompany person fee is only for spouses and/or children. Please contact us if you are unsure.

Virtual registration fee includes the following:

  • Publication of 1 accepted paper in the proceedings. Publication of each additional paper requires a $250 CAD registration
  • Access to all the sessions of the conference
